International Student Service Scholarship

DEADLINE : May 31st for Fall semester, November 1st for Spring semester

Columbus State University and the Center for International Education are pleased to offer the International Student Service Scholarship to qualified undergraduate and graduate international students on an F-1 student visa. The International Student Service Scholarship is an out-of-state tuition waiver available to a limited number of international students who have been accepted to CSU, or are presently attending CSU. Candidates for the ISSS scholarship may be asked to do an in person interview or web interview before being offered a scholarship. Recipients of this scholarship are representatives of the Center for International Education and may be asked to speak in classrooms or do presentations and need to comfortable speaking in public and in front of groups. Recipients will also assist other students during international orientation.

Favorite memory during time in US: The most memorable event was the snow last year. It was the first time in my life I saw snow. I had always wished to see snow and that wish was fulfilled.

Best advice to classmates who want to study abroad: If you have an opportunity to study abroad, go for it. It is not just the knowledge that you will learn, but it is also a chance for you to grow up through changes and challenges.

What activities are you involved with at CSU: I love science and mathematics. I am currently a vice president of the Math Club. I hope I can do my best to improve the club and make mathematics accessible to all who wish to learn it. I am a member of the International Relations Club, Philosophy Club, and the Engineering Society

Favorite memory during time in US: I have many good moments in the US but I guess my favorite memory is when my mother first came to see me settled and even though I had exams, I organize myself (as I never have done before) that we always had time to spend it together, and then we went to Destin, Florida.

Favorite travel or internationally themed quote: My favorite travel was when I was sixteen and I went with my mother to France, Egypt, Jordan, and in Miami we met my father.

Best advice to classmates who want to study abroad: Organize yourself, be open minded, and try to talk to students who are from another culture in order to be able to also enjoy the country where you study abroad.

What activities are you involved with at CSU: I am an ISSS student, I am a Diversity Peer Educator, I am a CHISPA member and I am a Spanish tutor.

Favorite memory during time in US: I have had many amazing moments in the US. I have wonderful memories of my undergrad years playing tennis for Columbus State. I am very thankful for all the opportunities and people I met here. However, I think my favorite memory during my time here was when my family came to my graduation in 2014. It was amazing to have them here for such a special moment.

Best advice to classmates who want to study abroad: In my opinion study abroad is extremely beneficial for students and if you have a chance to do it, I recommend it. You will have a chance to have a better understanding and appreciation of different cultures, traditions and languages. It is an amazing experience that helps you grow a lot. If you decide to go for it, be open minded, respectful of the different culture and, enjoy every moment.
